Hi everyone, welcome to my new blog. I’m Xanthe, also known as Xaz or Xazzy, and I’m starting this blog as I finish university and start my life post-education, so it felt about the right time to have a fresh start with my blog. Like my previous blog, which you can find on the Archive page, I will be discussing wildlife and the environment, but I will also be sharing posts about other things that are close to my heart, and talking about my experiences as well as life in general!
As I’m writing this, I’m close to finishing my degree, unfortunately not to graduating though (because of the pandemic) and I’m getting ready to move back to Yorkshire with my fiancée, Yasmin. I’m excited, however I have come to really feel at home in Cumbria, where I have been living for the past three years, whilst studying my degree. One of the things that I love about Cumbria is the environment and countryside all around as well as all the wildlife. Having beaches, mountains, lakes and forest all so close to us has been really amazing and given Yas and I a chance to go on so many adventures! It will be difficult to leave this beautiful place but we are also looking forward to going on new adventures in and around Yorkshire. Ultimately, we plan to return to Cumbria or South West Scotland in a year or two, but until then, we will just be visitors. Some of the best wildlife we have managed to see whilst living in Cumbria includes; red squirrels, tawny & barn owls, badgers, curlews, roe deer and so much more. I have my fingers crossed that we will be able to spot some of these beautiful creatures in Yorkshire too. Being at uni has taught me so much, but I can’t deny that I’m grateful that my time there is coming to an end! Although I’ve loved it so much, it has been very tough (even the stuff I’ve enjoyed) and I think everyone coming to the end of their degree would agree with me. It does feel very rewarding though. I feel like I’m a completely different person to when I arrived (with my purple hair and broken leg) - and apart from the fact that I now have a shaved head and two functioning legs (touch wood) a lot of things have happened, both good and bad. Meeting Yas, getting a little van to convert into a camper, travelling to new places, getting engaged, acquiring five little pets as well as struggling with mental and physical health, losing people I love and being far away from all of my friends and family are just some of these things, and there is definitely more to come about them in future blog posts - especially about the camper conversion! In terms of other plans in the near future, aside from moving, Yas and I will be job hunting, visiting as many of our friends and family that we have missed out on spending time with (coronavirus regulations permitting) as well as finally getting started on our van conversion, getting it insulated and all of our storage built in, as well as taking it on adventures. Thank you for reading this little introduction. I’m excited for this fresh start and to share it with you. I hope you return for my next post, Xaz
